This dream hit me especially hard. I still can't shake the images from my head. My emotions were so confused and jumbled. I needed to get it out and onto here.
It began with the apocalypse. Chaos was everywhere. I demanded for my parents, brother, and girlfriend to get into the car. "I have to go back for them, I'll see you in the mountains, where we discussed." My tear-streaked parents nodded before shutting the door and screeching off in their car. I raced furiously across town in my truck. I hope I'm not too late. The thought kept repeating in my mind.
I arrived at her house. The whole building was in ruins. I dug through the rubble, looking for any signs of life. Another car pulled up behind mine, several figures jumped from the still running vehicle. We all began furiously tearing through the broken boards, stones, and other debris. I found her. I pulled her from the wreckage, she was crying furiously and clinging to me. "You came for me." were the only words she uttered.
Time lapsed. I was back at my parents house. The only room that was still secure was my brothers old room. We camped there for about a week. Everyone else that was originally with us was either dead or lost.
We finally made it to the mountains. My parents happily greeted us with hugs and smiles. After a warm homecoming, the mood turned grim. My brother and girlfriend had died in the journey to the mountains. They had died to protect my parents.
Would I have been able to save them if I hadn't come for her? Did I doom the ones I loved to honor an old promise?
I awoke.
